Benfica loses 2-1 at Braga for 1st defeat in Portuguese league


LISBON, Portugal — Benfica lost 2-1 at Braga on Sunday as the Portuguese league leaders were dealt their first loss of the season.

The defending champions' first defeat through eight rounds left them one point ahead of FC Porto in the standings.

Anderson Talisca gave Benfica a bright start with a goal just two minutes into the match. But striker Eder leveled for the hosts in the 28th and substitute Salvador Agra got the winner nine minutes from time after going on in the 72nd.

Braga finished with 10 men after Danilo earned his second booking in stoppage time.

Guimaraes is two points behind in third, followed by Sporting Lisbon in fourth.

Braga is in fifth place, five points behind Benfica.
