FARGO, North Dakota — An inmate at the North Dakota State Penitentiary is accused of threatening a federal judge.

Robert Lee Johnson is charged with one count of mailing threatening communications. He's scheduled to make his first court appearance later this month.

Authorities say Johnson sent a letter to U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson that threatened Erickson and his family. The letter was postmarked on June 16.

A federal public defender could not be reached for comment.
