Court orders mental evaluation for Tennessee man charged with killing father


JACKSON, Tennessee — A judge has ordered a mental exam for a Tennessee man charged with killing his father.

The Jackson Sun reported ( ) that the attorney for 29-year-old Clayton Nelson requested the evaluation Thursday during a preliminary hearing.

Clayton Nelson was charged with beating and stabbing 57-year-old Jeffrey Nelson to death inside Jeffrey Nelson's duplex. Jeffrey Nelson's body was found on July 12.

Clayton Nelson is charged with first-degree murder.

Since his arrest, Clayton Nelson has been held without bond at the Madison County Jail.

Jackson Police Capt. Tyreece Miller said the Jeffrey Nelson had been dead between 36 to 48 hours before his body was found. Police went to Jeffrey Nelson's home after a family member reported that Nelson had not been heard from in several days.
