1 dead, 1 injured in rollover accident in eastern Iowa's Benton County, authorities say


NORWAY, Iowa — Authorities say one person died and one was injured in a rollover accident in eastern Iowa.

Officials say the accident occurred around 6:00 p.m. Thursday in Norway, in rural Benton County. The Iowa State Patrol says 23-year-old Mark D. Himmelsbach, of Norway, was southbound when he lost control of the vehicle, veered into a ditch and began to roll. Authorities say 20-year-old Christine L. Ballard, of Marengo, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Himmelsbach was airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Information on his condition has not been released.

Authorities say the crash remains under investigation.
