Gaffney woman dies after struck by Amtrak train

GAFFNEY, South Carolina — A Gaffney woman has died after being hit by an Amtrak train.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says the woman was hit around 1:30 a.m. Thursday on tracks between two streets in Gaffney.

Fowler says the victim was 44-year-old Pamela Garrison.

The coroner says Garrison had been walking with her boyfriend, who had just crossed the track, when she was hit.

Fowler says an autopsy is planned Friday.

The train with 258 passengers was delayed more than two hours during the investigation. No one on the train was hurt.
