BENSALEM, Pennsylvania — Police say a woman was struck and killed by a pickup truck while crossing a highway in suburban Philadelphia.

The crash happened around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday on southbound Route 1 in Bensalem.

Police say witnesses saw the 51-year-old woman talking on a cellphone as she walked across the six-lane highway from a Wawa to a motel.

It's the second pedestrian death in the community in the last week.

A 57-year-old woman died Saturday night after police say she was struck by a van on Street Road.
