PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — General Treasurer Gina Raimondo says the state has spent at least $377,655 to defend the legislature's overhaul of Rhode Island's public employee pension system against legal challenges.

Council 94 of the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees and other public employee unions have challenged the pension overhaul.
Raimondo's office at first balked at releasing the information, saying that the judge ordered confidentiality of the mediation process.
The lawsuit seeks to overturn the 2011 restructuring of the state's pension system by the General Assembly and an attempt by lawmakers to limit future pension costs,
