New Haven police: 71-year-old man shot knife-wielding attacker left in critical condition

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut — New Haven police say a 71-year-old man shot and critically injured another man he accused of trying to attack him with a knife.

Police say Anthony Anamasi called 911 on Sunday morning, saying he shot Leroy Brown. Anamasi said he had returned to his apartment and was waiting for police.

Police say he's cooperating with investigators.

The 23-year-old Brown was found in the apartment building's front hallway and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. Police say he's in critical condition.
