Second victim of Polk County apartment fire dies; man tried to rescue another

ELOISE, Florida — A second man has died from injuries he received in an apartment building fire in central Florida.

The Lakeland Ledger (http://bit.ly/11BKVl9) reports Joseph Fernandez died Monday at Tampa General Hospital, where he was being treated for severe burns.

Fernandez ran into the burning building in Polk County on Saturday in an attempt to save his elderly friend, but was unsuccessful and was severely burned.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office hasn't identified the man who was badly burned and killed in the fire Saturday. Officials say they're awaiting autopsy results to confirm his identity.
