1 killed, 1 critical, officer exchanges gunfire with suspect in Philly shootings

PHILADELPHIA — Shootings left one man dead and another in critical condition in Philadelphia and a police officer also came under fire after arriving at another shooting scene.

Police said a 21-year-old man shot multiple times in a north Philadelphia apartment was pronounced dead just before 7:30 a.m. at Einstein Medical Center.

Officers in west Philadelphia heard gunfire shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday and found a 24-year-old man on the ground in a pool of blood. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in critical condition.

Police patrolling in north Philadelphia came upon a man firing a gun at the occupants of a car at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday. An officer fired at the suspect, who fired back as he fled. He escaped and no one was injured.
