Biloxi charged with felony child abuse after 4-year-old boy develops seizures


BILOXI, Mississippi — Biloxi police have arrested a man on a felony child abuse charge that alleges he struck a 4-year-old in the head several times, causing head trauma and seizures.

The Sun Herald reports ( ) 26-year-old Austin Drake Sluter was arrested on Wednesday.

Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain set bond for Sluter at $100,000.

Detective Steve Schlicht says a medical emergency involving the child was reported July 19.

Schlicht says the child was suffering from seizures, and was treated at a nearby hospital until medical personnel determined trauma to its head had caused the seizures and bruising.

Sluter is being held at the Harrison County jail.

It was unclear whether he has an attorney.
