3 injured in early morning house fire in East Hartford, neighbor helped rescue child

EAST HARTFORD, Connecticut — Three family members have been injured in an early morning fire at their East Hartford home.

A neighbor, Jay Arcand, tells WVIT-TV he helped rescue a 7-year-old girl from the house. Arcand said he and the girl's father, who had managed to get out of the house, found her near the front door in heavy smoke conditions and pulled her outside. The girl was taken to a hospital for treatment of burns.

The man's mother and brother were rescued through windows and taken to the hospital.

Fire officials said the fire was reported by neighbors who saw the flames after 3 a.m. Sunday as the family was sleeping. The cause is being investigated.
