California motorcyclist dies from injuries in last week's crash on I-80 in Reno

RENO, Nevada — A 59-year-old California man has died from injuries he suffered last week in a motorcycle crash on U.S. Interstate 80 in Reno.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says Kevin J. Ness of Oakland was thrown from his motorcycle when he was struck by a vehicle shortly after noon on Wednesday while headed east on I-80 near the Wells Avenue exit.

Investigators say Ness was hit by a PT Cruiser that had already collided with a Toyota Camry that apparently swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle that suddenly slowed in congested traffic.

The patrol said in a statement Monday the accident remains under investigation and criminal charges may be filed.

Ness died Sunday night at Renown Regional Medical Center.
