SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota — Sioux Falls police say there have been 42 robberies or burglaries in five months within a two-mile radius on the city's west side.
Officials say the latest holdup was probably the most brazen.
The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports (http://argusne.ws/1bOPp2S) that two men pointed a gun at a clerk at Cubby's convenience store and took an undisclosed amount of money just after 1 a.m. Friday. On the way out, one robber fired a shot in the direction of the 62-year-old clerk. The bullet struck a cooler a few feet from the woman.
Police spokesman Sam Clemens says it's a "pretty brazen act" to fire on a clerk who is cooperative.
Clemens describes the recent number of burglaries in the area near 41st Street and Western Avenue as "certainly unusual."
