Martin scores career-high 19, leads UC Irvine past CS Northridge, 67-58

IRVINE, California — Jaron Martin scored a career-high 19 points and Will Davis II added 10 points and 11 rebounds as California-Irvine eased past Cal State Northridge, 67-58 on Saturday night.

UC Irvine (16-10, 9-3) maintains its hold on second place in the Big West Conference

Martin got to the basket for a layup with a minute to play in the game to give the Anteaters a 16-point lead, 65-49, but CS Northridge charged back. Devonte Elliott knocked down a jumper and made it a three-point play and Taelin Webb, Stephan Hicks and Elliott each converted a pair of free throws to cut the lead to seven points, but Martin knocked down a pair of free throws with :06 left for the final margin.

The Anteaters shot 25 of 60 (41.7 percent) from the field, including 8 of 22 from beyond the arc.

Hicks finished with 16 points and Aaron Parks added another 13 to lead the Matadors (7-22, 2-11).
