FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina — Fayetteville police say they are investigating the death of a 16-year-old boy who was shot near a party he was attending.

Police say officers responded to reports of a shooting about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. A preliminary investigation shows the victim was attending the party when he got involved in a fight outside the home. Multiple gunshots were fired.

Detectives say three suspects were seen fleeing the area in a sport utility vehicle.

Police on Sunday identified the victim as Joseph Braxton III of Fayetteville. He was a student at Seventy First High School.
