29-year-old upstate New York man admits killing his mother, says it was assisted suicide


MONTICELLO, New York — A 29-year-old upstate New York man says strangling his mother to death was an assisted suicide.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown reports ( ) Andrew Moore pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter for helping 54-year-old mother Margaret Regalia commit suicide in January. He faces from five to 15 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 18 in Sullivan County Court.

Moore was originally charged with second-degree murder.

His mother was found dead at her home in Bloomingburg after she failed to report to work and state police discovered that her 1999 Toyota Corolla and some personal property were missing.

Moore and the car were found two days later in the Middletown area about 50 miles north of New York City.
