Woman, 2 children dead after Memphis home catches fire; cause under investigation

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — A woman and two children are dead after a home caught fire in Memphis.

A statement from the Memphis Fire Department says crews were called to the home late Wednesday and arrived to find smoke coming from the one-story structure.

During a search, firefighters found the woman and children unresponsive and they were taken to local hospitals, where they were later pronounced dead. Their identities weren't immediately released.

Memphis Fire Lt. Wayne Cooke said in a statement that the fire originated in the living room, but its cause is still under investigation.

He said the home did not have a working smoke alarm.
