WILMINGTON, Delaware — New Castle County Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the owner of a stolen softball bat that was used to beat a man to death.

Officers said on Friday that the body of 43-year-old Wayne Cappelli of Claymont was found by the side of a residential street in Wilmington on Feb. 18, 2013. Authorities say he was beaten with an aluminum softball bat. There have been no arrests in the slaying.

The bat is described as a white, aluminum Louisville Slugger TPS CVL softball bat. Police say the owner of the stolen bat may live in the York or Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area.

Anyone with information about the bat or the crime is urged to call New Castle County Police at 302-395-8133.
