Man and his dog die in Jackson house fire, cause of fire under investigation

JACKSON, Mississippi — Authorities say a man and his dog died in a Jackson house fire.

Jackson Fire Department Division Chief Cleotha Sanders said units responded to a fire in the 700 block of Hooker Street around 4 a.m. Sunday.

Sanders tells WLBT TV (http://bit.ly/1A4PV4z) firefighters discovered the man's body near the kitchen door. His dog also died in the fire.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart said the man appears to be in his 50's.

Officials are working to determine his identity and an autopsy is being scheduled.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
