Vermont trout fishing season starts Saturday, April 12

MONTPELIER, Vermont — Vermont's spring trout fishing season kicks off this weekend.

The season starts Saturday for the fishing for brook, brown and rainbow trout. Anglers who want to get fishing sooner rather than later can still practice catch-and-release fishing on nine stream sections across the state.

Officials say Willoughby River in Orleans is expected to be a popular spot partly because the fish "can be seen jumping the falls."

Vermont's catch-and-release bass fishing season in lakes also starts on April 12.

Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department officials remind anglers that felt-soled boots or waders are prohibited to curb the spread of invasive algae.
