Department of Corrections: 56-year-old state prison inmate dies after 'lengthy illness'

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota — A 56-year-old state prison inmate has died in Sioux Falls following a 'lengthy illness.'

The South Dakota Department of Corrections says Curtis Dosch passed away Thursday in a local hospital.

Dosch was sentenced to a suspended prison term of 28 years in 2007 after being convicted of third-degree burglary, grand theft and multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance. His first chance at parole would have been in February of 2020.

Corrections spokesman Michael Winder says further details about Dosch's illness cannot be released because of medical privacy laws.
