CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — A man is recovering after being shot by an off-duty Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer during a foot chase.

Local media reports said the officer responded to the sound of shooting late Friday.

The wounded man suffered minor injuries. Police charged 31-year-old Franswa Crawford with offenses related to the shooting. Police say they are looking for another suspect who got away.

Police say Sgt. Henry Rozell was working off-duty when he heard gunshots and responded to the scene. Rozell saw two people with guns and ordered them to drop their weapons, but they started running into an apartment complex.

Charlotte police say a suspect pointed a gun at Rozell during the chase, so the officer fired.

The 14-year police veteran is on leave pending an outside investigation of the shooting.
