CAMBRIDGE, Ohio — An eastern Ohio man has been sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole for 38 years for killing a pizza delivery driver and dumping her body at a state park.

Guernsey County Prosecutor Dan Padden says a three-judge panel in Cambridge sentenced 33-year-old Adam Burris on Friday, opting for the prison sentence instead of the death penalty.

The panel heard testimony this week for and against a death sentence.

Burris had pleaded guilty last month to aggravated murder and other charges. He waived a jury trial and asked for the hearing before the three-judge panel.

Burris killed 26-year-old Kayla Thompson, who didn't return from a pizza delivery to Burris' Cambridge home on Dec. 26, 2013. He later led authorities to her body at a state park.
