Report: Yavapai County Sheriff's deputy shoots car theft suspect after attack in parking lot

PRESCOTT, Arizona — Authorities say a Yavapai County Sheriff's deputy has shot and killed a car theft suspect after the man attacked the deputy.

Yavapai County Sheriff's Office said the deputy shot the man early Friday following an altercation in a commercial parking lot.

According to investigators, the deputy has approached the suspect but the man attacked the deputy and punched him several times while a patrol vehicle kept moving.

The office says deputy then shot the man, whose name has not been released.

Authorities say the suspect was eventually flown to a Phoenix area hospital where he later died.
