CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — A 30-year-old man is charged with fatally shooting an 18-year-old near an apartment complex in southeast Charlotte.

Multiple media outlets report that Aaron McGriff is charged with murder in Monday morning's shooting death of Adrian Williams.

McGriff turned himself in at police headquarters that afternoon. Before doing so, he admitted to a WCNC reporter that he shot Williams (http://bit.ly/1vncZYX ). But McGriff says he did so in self-defense as an argument over a gun escalated. McGriff alleges Williams took a gun from him Saturday.

McGriff told WCNC that's the gun he took after shooting Williams. He said he's "sorry it went down like that."

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.
