Man apparently shot in his Syracuse apartment dies; homicide investigation underway


SYRACUSE, New York — Police in Syracuse say they're investigating the death of a man who was found in his apartment suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Officers say the 51-year-old man was found around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday at his apartment on the city's south side. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say the exact cause of death is unknown pending an autopsy to be conducted by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office.

Investigators remain at the scene gathering evidence.

The man's death is the 22nd homicide reported in Syracuse this year.
