Md. man pleads guilty to bank fraud, accused of using money to gamble at W.Va. casino

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Maryland man faces up to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty in West Virginia to bank fraud.

U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II says 28-year-old Girard Eldridge Curry of Coppa, Md., used a false ID to obtain $48,500 from SunTrust Bank in August 2011.

According to the indictment, Curry and a co-defendant, Derran Hankins of Randallstown, Md., used some of the money to gamble at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.

Hankins pleaded guilty earlier this month to aiding and abetting bank fraud. A sentencing hearing is set for Aug. 20.
