LIU Brooklyn knocks Robert Morris out of share of 2nd in NEC with a 72-63 upset win

NEW YORK — Martin Hermannsson scored 17 points and Gerrell Martin and Joel Hernandez each added 15 as LIU Brooklyn knocked Robert Morris out of a share of second place in the Northeast Conference with a 72-63 win Thursday night.

Kavon Stewart pulled Robert Morris within five, 55-50, with 5:35 left to play, but the Blackbirds closed out the game by converting 14 of 16 from the free throw line, led by Hermannsson, who was 8 of 10.

LIU Brooklyn struggled from the field, shooting 23 of 60 (38.3 percent), including 3 of 13 from beyond the arc. Overall, the Blackbirds were 23 of 30 from the free throw line.

Nura Zanna added 10 points for LIU Brooklyn (9-13, 5-6 NEC), and Glenn Feidanga grabbed 10 rebounds.

Marcquise Reed scored 22 points to lead the Colonials (11-12, 7-4). Rodney Pryor added 15 points and Elijah Minnie added another 10.
