LOUISVILLE, Kentucky — A fire has damaged 16 apartments in southern Jefferson County.

Multiple news outlets report the fire sparked Monday morning at the Glenmary Village Apartments in Fern Creek.

Fern Creek Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief DeWayne Hutchens said the early morning winds fueled the fire.

The apartment building suffered significant damage. The roof collapsed and the siding melted off until firefighters pushed the wall out. The interior walls of apartments were burned to the bare beams.

No injuries were reported, but three pets were rescued and evaluated. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
