Truro police seek white pickup truck that may be connected to fatal shooting of dog

TRURO, Massachusetts — Police continue to investigate the fatal shooting of a dog in Truro.

The 6-year-old cocker spaniel named Sophie was shot Saturday morning while out for a walk with her owner, 70-year-old Kenneth Dutra.

Dutra was walking his two dogs at North of Highland Campground, where he has been caretaker for 20 years.

Sophie took off while he was loading the dogs in his car, he heard two gunshots and she came back injured. She died on the way the veterinarian's office.

Dutra says his dog may have been shot by rabbit hunters.

Police say they're looking for a white pickup truck seen in the area that had been carrying three or four hunters and may be connected to the shooting.
