SYRACUSE, New York — Police say they're investigating the killing of a 71-year-old Syracuse man who was shot while sitting in a vehicle as his friend ran an errand.
Syracuse police say two men were in a vehicle that stopped on James Street around 8 p.m. Sunday so the driver could get out. When the driver returned to the vehicle, he found that the vehicle and his friend were gone from the scene.
The friend was found shot inside the vehicle a short time later at a nearby location.
Police say a witness reported seeing two men approach the vehicle as it was parked and point a gun at the passenger, who was hit in the head by at least one shot.
He was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he died. His name hasn't been released.
