WHEELING, West Virginia — Dylan Tonkery rushed for a Class AA championship game-record 315 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead defending champion Bridgeport to a 43-7 win over Frankfort on Friday night.

Dante Bonamico had two scoring runs for the top-seeded Indians (13-1) at Wheeling Island Stadium.

Tonkery broke the record of 276 rushing yards set by Grafton's Damon Waters in 2008. A week ago, Tonkery had 257 yards and four TDs in a semifinal win over Wayne.

Second-seeded Frankfort (13-1) made its first appearance in the championship game. The Falcons' previous high for points allowed this season was 28.

Unlike last year, when Bridgeport squeaked out a 14-13 win to beat Wayne for the championship, this game was one-sided.

Tonkery had 261 yards in the first half, including TD runs of 73, 60 and 16 yards as Bridgeport built a 29-0 lead. Tonkery's third score came after Bridgeport's Mackenzie Holmes blocked a Frankfort punt.

Bonamico had a 6-yard TD run in the second quarter and a 4-yarder in the fourth. He had another chance to score in the second quarter but he fumbled at the 8 and Frankfort recovered.

Bridgeport's Luke Southern nearly intercepted Gage Shaffer early in the third quarter, but Frankfort's Jacob Kessel caught the deflection and went for a 54-yard score.

A long return on the ensuing kickoff set Bridgeport up in Frankfort territory, and Mitchell Winkie finished off the drive with a 1-yard score for a 36-7 lead with 4 minutes left in the third.
