ATLANTA — Authorities say they've recovered the body of an Atlanta man believed to have drowned after falling from a dock into Lake Lanier.

Hall County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Deputy Nicole Bailes tells The Times of Gainesville (http://bit.ly/1sV9kR3 ) the body of 28-year-old Jacob Thomas was found Monday in about 48 feet of water.

Bailes says Thomas lost his balance and witnesses said he may have hit his head when he fell early Sunday. Bailes says alcohol may have been a factor.

Authorities used sonar equipment Monday to look for Thomas' body at Sunset Cove at the south end of the lake.

Emergency officials received calls about the fall around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. They called off the search Sunday afternoon because it was too dangerous. They began searching again at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
