Phoenix police say driver of vehicle that fatally struck 15-year-old boy fled the scene

PHOENIX — Police say a 15-year-old boy has died after he was struck by a vehicle on a Phoenix street.

Sgt. Vince Lewis says the teen died from his injuries Saturday morning, a day after he was hit near 16th Street and Montebello Avenue.

Lewis says the boy was in the roadway around 10 p.m. Friday when a dark-colored vehicle hit him and then left the scene.

The victim was taken to a hospital in extremely critical condition.

Police believe the sedan that hit him may have been a Lexus.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Police did not release the boy's name.
