19-year-old charged with manslaughter in shooting that Ferguson police are calling accidental

FERGUSON, Missouri — A 19-year-old man has been charged in a deadly Ferguson shooting that police have called accidental.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch ( ) reports that Jerry Lee Underwood of Riverview faces charges of first-degree manslaughter and armed criminal action in Friday's fatal shooting of Reginald J. Hamblin. It wasn't immediately known if Underwood had an attorney.

Police say Underwood and two others went to Hamblin's home Friday to pick up a rifle from Hamblin. Underwood was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle when Hamblin went to return the rifle. Police say that during the exchange, Underwood accidently pulled the trigger and Hamblin was hit.

Police say the rifle did not have a trigger guard on it. Hamblin was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
