Union in Pulaski County School District vote 'no confidence' for Kimbrell, superintendent

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The union representing teachers in the Pulaski County School District has voted "no confidence" in Superintendent Jerry Guess and state Education Commissioner Tom Kimbrell.

The district was taken over by the state due to financial irregularities and then it entered fiscal distress in February.

Guess has overridden labor contracts for teachers and support staff. A Friday statement by the teachers union criticized Guess for not taking a pay cut in the proposed budget for next school year while some teachers would suffer pay cuts in the thousands of dollars.

The unions have sued the district to in hope of getting a judge to reinstate their contracts.

The 17,000-student district has a projected deficit of $13.6 million for the 2012-2013 school year.
