LOS ANGELES — Stephan Hicks scored a career-high 28 points, shooting 7 of 11 from the field and hitting all 13 of his free throws, to pace Cal State Northridge past Long Beach State 91-83 on Thursday night.
The Matadors (15-17, 7-9 Big West) shot 51 percent from the field and went 34 of 39 from the free-throw line. Josh Greene and Tre Hale-Edmerson each had 15 points, and Stephen Maxwell added 13 with nine rebounds.
CS Northridge had a 43-38 halftime advantage, and pushed that lead to nine with 3:53 remaining after two Hicks free throws. The 49ers pulled within two after a Caffey 3-pointer, but the Matadors sank their last 10 free throws to ice it.
