Port of Los Angeles reports nearly 15 percent increase in April export-import containers

LOS ANGELES — It was the busiest-ever April for container volume at the Port of Los Angeles.

Port officials say combined import and export container volume increased nearly 15 percent last month compared to April 2011.

Arriving 20-foot equivalent containers increased 16.7 percent, from 312,359 containers in April 2011 to 364,555 last month.

Exports increased 11.5 percent, from 167,448 containers in April 2011 to 186,838 last month.

Overall container volume, factoring in empties, jumped from 479,808 containers in April 2011 to 551,393 in last month, making it the busiest April in port history.
