US wants ex-Michigan Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway sentenced to prison for bank fraud

ANN ARBOR, Michigan — Federal prosecutors are urging a judge to send a former Michigan Supreme Court justice to prison for bank fraud.

The U.S. government filed a sentencing memo in the case against Diane Hathaway ahead of a hearing next Tuesday in Ann Arbor federal court.

Prosecutors say her crime was "coordinated" and "methodical." They're seeking a prison sentence of a year to 18 months

Hathaway admits she concealed assets and misled a bank as she tried to negotiate a short sale on her home in Grosse Pointe Park. The government says she had assets of more than $1 million but still wanted to be free of a $600,000 mortgage debt.

Hathaway is asking for probation and community service instead of time behind bars. She quit the state Supreme Court in January.
