Gamba Osaka beats FC Tokyo 2-1 to keep pressure on J-League leaders Urawa

OSAKA, Japan — Kotaro Omori and Yasuhito Endo scored second-half goals as Gamba Osaka beat FC Tokyo 2-1 Sunday to close the gap on J-League leaders Urawa Reds.

Omori opened the scoring in the 52nd minute and Endo doubled the advantage with a free kick five minutes later as Gamba improved to 55 points, just three behind Urawa with four games remaining.

Substitute Tadanari Lee scored in the second half as Urawa earned a 1-1 draw with Kashima Antlers, who are third on 51 points.

Urawa hasn't won since Oct. 5 when it beat last-placed Tokushima Vortis 2-1. Gamba, meanwhile, has won three of its last four.

In other matches, Naoki Ishihara scored twice as champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima improved to 45 points with a 3-1 win over relegation-threatened Shimizu S-Pulse. Kashiwa Reysol beat Vegalta Sendai 2-1 on goals by Hirofumi Watanabe and Leandro.

Ventforet Kofu beat fourth-placed Kawasaki Frontale 2-1 while Yokohama Marinos and Cerezo Osaka finished 0-0.

Also, relegated Vortis were defeated 2-0 by Nagoya Grampus with goals by Ryota Tanabe and Danilson.
