Ota scores late winner as Kashiwa Reysol beats Gamba Osaka 1-0 in J-League


KASHIWA, Japan — Tetsuro Ota scored in the 90th minute as Kashiwa Reysol beat Gamba Osaka 1-0, ending the former Asian Champion's seven-game winning streak in the J-League on Wednesday.

Ota, who came off the bench in the 78th minute, converted a Kim Chang Soo cross to secure three points for the hosts and deliver a blow to Gamba's title hopes. With five games remaining, Gamba trails leaders Urawa Reds by five points.

Urawa, on 57 points, was held to a 0-0 draw at home by Ventforet Kofu.

At the other end of the table, Tokushima Vortis became the first team relegated after a 3-1 loss at Cerezo Osaka.

Elsewhere, Kawasaki Frontale rose to third and within six points of Urawa after beating Sagan Tosu 2-0. Tosu is now seven points behind Urawa.

Kashima Antlers drew 0-0 with Vissel Kobe and is also seven points back. FC Tokyo edged champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima 2-1, while Nagoya Grampus and Vegalta Sendai fought to a goalless draw.

Relegation-threatened Omiya Ardija lost 3-2 to Yokohama F Marinos, and Shimizu S-Pulse defeated Albirex Niigata 2-1 to climb out of the drop zone and into 15th place.
