California State University, Fullerton bans smoking on campus

FULLERTON, Calif. — California State University, Fullerton has adopted a campus-wide smoking ban.

City News Service says the ban will extend to sales of tobacco products and will be accompanied by an 18-month educational outreach program.

Interim President Willie J. Hagan approved the proposal Thursday and it will go into effect on Aug. 1, 2013.

Hagan says students and faculty have expressed support for a smoke-free campus, to his surprise.

The school had already banned smoking on most of the campus in 2003 but the new rule also bans smoking in parking lots and vehicles.
