BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — Authorities say shrapnel from a bullet fired by a sheriff's deputy wounded another deputy and a State Police trooper as they tried to arrest a fugitive Thursday at a Baton Rouge hotel.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office on Friday released the preliminary results of its investigation of the deadly confrontation. The sheriff's office says Jessie Aron Gordon, a 22-year-old Denham Springs man wanted on charges that included burglary and drug possession, shot and killed himself after law-enforcement officials knocked on the door to his hotel room.
The deputy and trooper suffered minor injuries when a bullet fired by another deputy ricocheted off a brick wall and struck them with shrapnel.
Kelly Prestidge, a 24-year-old woman who was in the room with Gordon, was booked on accessory charges.
