STATESBORO, Georgia — Jelani Hewitt scored 26 points as Georgia Southern held off Brewton Parker for a 75-66 win Wednesday night.
Georgia Southern (4-5) led by double digits for the majority of the game, but after Brewton Parker closed the gap to 57-50 with 8:33 to play, Hewitt scored 10 consecutive points for the Eagles, including back-to-back 3-pointers, giving Georgia Southern a 67-56 advantage with 4:48 remaining. The Barons (5-5) would never get closer than 10.
Hewitt, who was coming off a 38-point performance against Campbell, hit 8 of 14 field-goal attempts, including 4 of 8 from behind the arc, and had four of Georgia Southern's 12 steals.
Darrie Stephens paced Brewton Parker with 20 points and nine rebounds. Nick Plummer added 15 points off the bench.
