WorkForce W.Va. says April seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is state's lowest in 4 years

CHARLESTON, West Virginia — West Virginia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April was 6.6 percent, the lowest it's been in four years.

WorkForce West Virginia said Tuesday that's down four-tenths of a percentage point from the previous month.

It says the number of unemployed state residents fell by 2,600 to 53,500.

Spokeswoman Courtney Sisk said county-by-county figures won't be available for another week or so.

But Tuesday's report notes total nonfarm payroll employment was down by 100. Though the good-producing sector gained 1,400 jobs, the service sector dropped 1,500.

The growth in the goods-producing sector came mostly in construction, mining and logging.
