Fort Yates man plans to plead guilty in stabbing incident on Standing Rock Indian Reservation

BISMARCK, North Dakota — A North Dakota man originally charged with assault to commit murder plans to plead guilty to a pair of lesser charges.

Francis Reed, of Fort Yates, says he will plead guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. He faces up to 10 years in prison on each charge.

The assault took place on Sept. 10, 2014. Authorities say Reed attacked another man with a knife on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.

A change of plea hearing is scheduled Monday in Bismarck.

A federal public defender for Reed could not be reached for comment.
