2 Forrest Co. men to serve 25 years each after pleading guilty to 2012 Hattiesburg murder


HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — Two Forrest County men will serve 25 years each after pleading guilty to murder in the 2012 shooting death of a Hattiesburg woman.

The Hattiesburg American reports ( ) 34-year-old Sherby Dale Barnes Jr. and 24-year-old Cotrell Lawrence Thomas were sentenced Wednesday by Circuit Court Judge Prentiss G. Harrell for the depraved heart murder of Judy Johnson of Hattiesburg.

Harrell gave each man a 30-year sentence, with 25 years to serve in prison.

Police say Johnson's body was found in her bedroom.

District Attorney Hal Kittrell says Barnes and Thomas had both pleaded guilty the past few weeks.
