CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Police have made an arrest in the 1988 killing of a taxi driver in Charlotte.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told local media outlets Thursday that 49-year-old Jackie Sanders has been charged with murder and armed robbery.
Thirty-year-old Dwight Thomas Corum was found dead in his cab on a city street on Jan. 14, 1988. Police said that although they collected the DNA evidence, they couldn't identify a suspect at the time.
A review of the case started late in 2013. Detectives said a review of DNA evidence allowed them to bring the charges against Sanders.
He was serving time at Tabor Correctional Institution in Tabor City for being a habitual felon. It was not clear if he has a lawyer for the new charges.
