BILLINGS, Montana — A 38-year-old man who shot at a restaurant employee and a Billings police officer last July has been sentenced to 55 years in prison.

Justin Wesley Delacruz apologized during his sentencing hearing before Judge Mary Jane Knisely last week.

The Billings Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1LveChH ) that Delacruz also thanked the officer he shot at for not shooting him.

The judge followed the sentencing recommendation made by prosecutors and the public defender.

No one was seriously hurt or killed during the shooting on July 6 when he demanded money from a restaurant employee.

Delacruz has pleaded guilty earlier to two counts of attempted deliberate homicide with a weapons enhancement along with felony robbery, criminal endangerment and drug possession.
